New Panther Club launched

LaGrange College is offering fans a way to support their favorite teams with the formation of the Panther Club.

The first of its kind at the college, the organization is designed to raise the profile of the athletics program and the institution, as well as provide support for its 16 intercollegiate teams, which compete in NCAA Division III. Funds raised by the club will be used to enhance the sports program.

“More than one third of LaGrange students are part of a Panther team,” said Athletic Director Phil Williamson. “Giving those athletes the best experience possible – on the playing field and in the classroom – will be the goal of the new Panther Club.”

LaGrange College alumnus David Fowler has agreed to a position on the club’s Leadership Team. Fowler, a LaGrange attorney and member of the class of 1985, will help with the recruitment of members for the group as well as for its Leadership Team.
“Panther athletics have been part of my life for as long as I can remember,” Fowler said. “There’s just nothing quite like college competition—for participants and fans alike.

“I couldn’t be more enthusiastic about being on the ground floor of a new organization whose aim is to boost Panther athletics.”

The Panther Club already has helped with two projects for the athletics department.

Funds raised by the Panther Club helped provide two chartered buses for fans to the first football game Sept. 4 against Birmingham-Southern in Birmingham, Ala.

The second project is the creation and launching of a new LaGrange College athletics website, scheduled for early 2011.

More activities will be announced as the organization gears up.
